From innovative solutions鈥. To transformative technologies. To smart energy management.

鈥婥ollaborating to develop innovative energy solutions and drive industry decarbonisation.

The customer

Schneider Electric, a leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation.鈥

The challenge 鈥

With their goal to consume 100% of electricity produced from renewable sources by 2030 as part of the company's RE100 commitment, Schneider Electric needed an energy supplier who could help them achieve this ambition and fulfil the electricity needs of their European facilities.鈥

The solution鈥

A collaboration between Schneider Electric and Shell Energy began in 2022 when the two companies formed the global energy transition alliance to support their respective and wider sectors鈥 transition to net zero. As part of this joint effort to explore industry-wide decarbonisation solutions, Shell Energy has turned to its portfolio of solar projects to deliver renewable power to Schneider Electric through a virtual power purchase agreement (vPPA) for a total of 1.6 TWh over nine years. This renewable power will not only enable Schneider Electric to fulfil the electricity needs of its facilities in Europe, helping them move closer to achieving their net-zero ambition. Additionally, it offers benefits such as long-term price stability, potential cost savings, risk mitigation against energy price volatility, and support for renewable energy projects.鈥

Schneider Electric and Shell Energy will continue exploring opportunities to co-develop integrated end-to-end energy solutions, including immersion cooling and digital twin technology. This collaboration aims to deliver greater range, scale, and scope that either could achieve alone, helping drive efficiency and reducing costs for customers.鈥

"Collaboration is vital to successful decarbonisation and is key to accelerating the global energy transition."

Gwenaelle Huet, EVP European Operations, Schneider Electric鈥

Shell Energy鈥檚 renewable electricity is supplied by the National Grid and certified by Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGO) certificates, matching electricity bought with the equivalent amount from 100% renewable sources.

The purchase of REGO certificates can demonstrate a business鈥 appetite to invest in renewable energy. It is important to note, that when renewable energy is distributed through the grid, it is mixed with energy from non-renewable sources.
