Triptych art piece from left to right: a panel shows a large cargo ship guided by a tugboat on open waters. The central panel features an aerial view of a bustling multi-lane highway in an urban setting. The right panel captures a close-up of a worker in safety gear welding metal with sparks flying.

Helping AG&P Pratham build a virtual pipeline to supply natural gas to off-grid customers in India.

The customer

AG&P Pratham, a city gas distributor in India.

The challenge

Driving economic growth while keeping CO2 emissions in check is key for a fast-growing economy like India. Moving to gas in place of conventional hydrocarbons is an important step in reducing emissions as well as improving air quality. AG&P Pratham is currently working to deliver a network of CNG stations to serve transport customers and also laying 17,000 inch-km of pipeline to connect home and business customers. However, while they build it there are many businesses that are not connected to the gas grid.

The solution

Working together with AG&P Pratham to find a fresh approach, the solution we decided on was to create a 鈥榲irtual pipeline鈥 by transporting super-chilled liquefied natural gas (LNG) which is brought to India on ships from a global portfolio of LNG supply. Cargoes are delivered at our regasification terminal in Hazira. Here the LNG is loaded onto special cryogenic trucks and delivered to industries with on-site storage and regasification facilities. This solution helps AG&P Pratham customers who want to switch to cleaner energy but don鈥檛 have access to a pipeline.
