FAQs for persons with disabilities
At Shell, we recommend that you do not share information about your disability, neurodivergent conditions or long-term health condition. Instead, we recommend that you share relevant information about the barriers you will face in the resourcing process and any adjustments you believe could remove them or reduce them. This will allow Shell to explore your needs and work with you to provide you with the necessary adjustments and accommodations that will enable you to perform to the best of your ability during the resourcing process.
When and how should you share relevant information about your barriers to access and adjustment/accommodation needs (due to disability, neurodivergent conditions, and/or long-term health conditions) with Shell?
When to share relevant information is an individual choice. However, at Shell, we recommend that you share this information as soon as you anticipate you will require adjustments to be made to our application and recruitment process.
When applying for any role at Shell, you can confirm that you have an adjustment/accommodation need whilst making your application. Select ‘yes’ to a statement about requiring adjustments to our processes and a member of our Assessment Management Team will be in touch with you to understand how we can support you throughout the process.
If you would like to, you can also email us at careers@shell.com as you apply or ahead of a stage of resourcing process that you believe you will require adjustments/accommodations for.
What is the benefit of sharing this information with Shell?
Sharing this information benefits you as it enables Shell to work with you during the resourcing process to understand what adjustments/accommodations may be required to remove or reduce barriers and support you to perform to your potential.
If you confirm that you may require support a member of the relevant regional resourcing team will get in touch with you. They can provide information about assessments ahead of your so you can understand what adjustments/accommodation you may need. They can also work with you to discuss what adjustments/accommodations might be appropriate and address any concerns or fears that you may have.
What support would be available to you in the workplace if you joined Shell (specifically related to your disability and/or long-term health condition)?
Support can come from several places in Shell. Read below to discover more:
- Global Disability Portal - this portal supports you to self-serve and develop your confidence and knowledge on topics such as framing discussions with your line manager, adjustments, and available services.
- Workplace Accessibility service (WPA) - our WPA allows employees to request physical adjustment such as chairs, software, keyboards and more that support accessibility in the workplace. The service can help you access the most commonly requested items or connect you with functional experts who can work with you on more individualized requests.
- Your Line Manager can support with understanding what support is available or helping you to explore it. They can also work with you to explore non-physical adjustments/accommodations you may require. They can also refer you to Occupational Health for additional support.
- Human Resources – you and you Line Manager can seek support from our internal HR teams to explore your needs and potential adjustment/accommodations.
- Occupational Health – our occupational health teams can provide confidential support in the workplace. They can listen to individual challenges, discuss possible workplace adjustments and share information on the resources available to you. They can also work with you and your Line Manager and/or HR regarding workplace support.
- enABLE Networks – we have 12 enABLE Networks globally, and they provide employees, with and without disabilities, neurodivergent conditions and/or long-term health conditions, an open forum for discussion about the subject area. It also enables the sharing of experience and seeking of advice whilst helping to raise awareness of various disabilities and health related topics in the wider Shell organisation.
