Global minimum standard for paid parental leave

Shell offers a global minimum of 8 weeks paid parental leave.

Welcoming a child into the family is a big moment in every parent鈥檚 life. It can be an exciting and fulfilling time 鈥 and also a tiring one. We believe that no matter who you are or how you became a parent, you deserve support at this important time. That鈥檚 why we offer a global minimum of eight weeks鈥 paid leave to all non-birthing parents at Shell (subject to any local restrictions). That includes new dads and parents welcoming a child through surrogacy or adoption, including LGBT+ employees.

Paid parental leave for non-birthing parents applies regardless of gender, gender identity and marital status. And 8 weeks paid leave is a global minimum 鈥 in some countries Shell offers longer paid parental leave. If you鈥檙e thinking about starting a family, you can also read about paid maternity leave at Shell.

By making it easier to take part in active caregiving, we are helping our employees decide for themselves how best to welcome a new member of their family.

"Every parent, no matter where they live, should be able to spend time with their new child. And that is true for all families. No matter if your child was born via surrogacy or adopted, or whether you are married or not, or from the LGBT+ community, it鈥檚 an important and special time and we want to support you."
