Shell NEODOL®

Shell NEODOL® is EUDR compliant and available today! Shell NEODOL® alcohols and ethoxylates are used by leading manufacturers of many different consumer and industrial products, ranging from dishwashing liquids, laundry and personal care products to hard surface cleaners, agrochemicals, and lubricants.

Shell NEODOL® is produced at Shell Chemicals’ manufacturing facility in Geismar, LA and shipped to customers around the world.

Our unique process

Shell NEODOL® alcohols are manufactured using the Shell Hydroformylation (SHF) process from olefins produced from ethylene using the Shell Higher Olefins Process (SHOP). The alcohols are then reacted with ethylene oxide to produce Shell NEODOL® ethoxylates.

Key benefits

Shell NEODOL® Alcohols:

  • Odd and even numbered primary alcohols ranging from C9 – C15
  • Approximately 80% linear, 20% branched (largely methyl, with less ethyl, propyl)
  • High purity chemicals with very low levels of contaminants (water, oxygenates, diols, and heavy metals)

Shell NEODOL® Alcohol Ethoxylates:

  • Low and high mole ethoxylates based on odd and even numbered primary alcohols ranging from C9 – C15
  • High purity with very low levels of contaminants (water and heavy metals)
  • Level of 1,4 - Dioxane, a by-product formed at low concentration, is less than 1 ppm

All Shell NEODOL® grades are readily biodegradable.

How are Shell NEODOL® products used?

Shell NEODOL® alcohols and alcohol ethoxylates are found at the heart of many everyday products. They help to keep our clothes, floors and dishes clean as well as being used in personal care products such as shampoo and bodywash. Shell NEODOL® ethoxylates are also used in agrochemical formulations while Shell NEODOL® alcohols are used to manufacture certain lubricant additives. Explore some of their applications here.

Shell LINEVOL®

The Shell LINEVOL® series is made up of high-purity, synthetic alcohols that are largely linear and have both odd and even-numbered hydrocarbon chains, ranging from C9 to C11. Shell LINEVOL® alcohols are used to manufacture plasticizer molecules, such as phthalate and trimellitate esters, which are used to plasticize polymers such as poly vinyl chloride (PVC). The plasticizer molecule based on LINEVOL alcohol improve the flexibility of the polymers.
