Dioxin Removal
Shell Catalysts & Technologies provides technology for the catalytic destruction of dioxins and furans from municipal solid and hazardous waste incineration facilities.
Customers can cost-effectively meet stringent worldwide dioxin emission requirements. From installation to ongoing maintenance, the Shell Dioxin Destruction System (SDDS) minimises the costs and complexity of dioxin abatement.

Shell Dioxin Destruction System & Dioxin Removal
SDDS from Shell Catalysts & Technologies is a very cost-effective, efficient and complete low-temperature technology for flue gas dioxin emission destruction. Its design, based on the Shell-engineered Lateral Flow Reactor (LFR), is proven in numerous incineration and industrial environments, offering excellent cost/performance benefits compared to other dioxin emission control technologies along with the ability to operate with greater energy efficiency.
By sharing our experience and operating per Shell Catalysts & Technologies guidelines, your dioxin destruction catalyst performance can be enhanced.
Help reduce the complexity of flue gas dioxin abatement with a dioxin destruction system.
Dioxin destruction in a single step
SDDS has been engineered to destroy dioxin and furan compounds in a single process step without the need for solid waste disposal or subsequent processing. Moreover, the process does not require additional reactants beyond the oxygen already in the flue gas.
Low emissions at low temperatures
SDDS enables dioxins to be significantly reduced at flue gas temperatures as low as 320°F (160°C).
Easy retrofit
SDDS it more active than alternative catalysts, which means it can be used in smaller volumes without compromising performance. The compact, lightweight nature of the system enables easy retrofit onto existing facilities where space is limited.
Additionally, SDDS can be installed with minimal downtime and disruption to operation. In fact, most installation work can be performed while the facility is still operating, thus reducing installation and operating costs.
High destruction efficiency
The combination of high catalyst activity and low pressure drop makes SDDS highly efficient at dioxin destruction. From the highest inlet concentrations, the system can achieve over 99.9% destruction of dioxins and furans, down to the lowest worldwide eluted emission limit.
Less maintenance and downtime
A durable and robust steel module and long-lasting catalyst enable your system to run reliably, helping to minimise maintenance, downtime and catalyst replacement.

Applications
SDDS technology has been successfully applied to liquid waste incinerators, after the wet acid gas scrubber, and to solid waste incinerators, after the acid gas and particulate removal systems. Low operating temperatures and the ability to design for low pressure drop enable the SDDS to be positioned at the tail end of most existing processes, just before the stack.
Help gain emissions control with Shell’s Environmental Catalysts and Systems (ECS)
Our integrated ECS technology can help refineries reduce harmful emissions released into the atmosphere. It includes process off-gas treatment catalysts for catalytic dioxin destruction and removal, removal of nitrogen oxides through selective catalytic reduction and more.

Municipal waste incineration
Shell Catalysts & Technologies’ catalytic dioxin destruction technology has been successfully applied to both liquid waste incinerators, after the wet acid gas scrubber, and to solid waste incinerators, after the acid gas and particulate removal systems. Low operating temperatures and the ability to design for low pressure drop allow the Shell Dioxin Destruction System to be positioned at the tail end of most existing processes, just before the stack.

CCR
A durable and robust steel module and long-lasting catalyst allow your system to run reliably and with less maintenance downtime or catalyst renewal. The use of SDDS enables high conversion of dioxin at relatively low operating temperature and with low pressure drop across the LFR, which results in fewer impacts on production.

Industrial waste incineration
The compact, lightweight nature of the system allows less complex retrofits onto existing facilities where space is limited. Installation at the end of the process results in significant savings in installation and operating costs, with reduced downtime for installation.
