Building Blocks for your Coating, Adhesive, Sealant and Elastomer (CASE) Applications.
Unlocking Innovation with Shell CARADOL®
High Performance solutions for every industry
Enabling the development of advanced polyurethane solutions that redefine performance, durability and sustainability, SHELL CARADOL polyether polyols are building blocks to produce urethane applications for coating, adhesive, sealant, and elastomer (CASE) products. From high-strength coatings and adhesives to flexible and resilient elastomers, Shell CARADOL empowers businesses across the construction, industrial, automotive sectors and beyond.

Engineered to deliver exceptional performance across a wide range of polyurethane applications, their tailored molecular structures enhance film formation, flexibility and weatherability, ensuring long-lasting protection against abrasion, UV exposure and harsh environmental conditions while providing strong adhesion, chemical resistance, and durability.
Formulators have trusted Shell CARADOL for decades to meet their CASE system needs. Available from our world-class manufacturing facility in the Netherlands, our conventional and sustainable Shell CARADOL products serve manufacturing needs throughout Europe.
Formulation that Fits
Manufacturers often have challenging requirements to meet their individual product needs. Shell CARADOL polyether polyols can be formulated to meet the demands of Coating, Adhesive, Sealant and Elastomer applications.

Coatings
When reacted with isocyanates, polyols are essential components providing durable and protective films. Polyether polyols polymerize with alkyne oxides to provide flexibility, hydrolytic stability and low temperature performance commonly used in soft and elastomeric coatings. Shell CARADOL can be formulated for performance requirements, environmental standards, curing mechanisms and application methods including spray, dip, roll and brush.

Adhesives
Performance demands for flexibility, strength, durability and chemical resistance, polyols can be formulated for substrate compatibility and environmental factors. Shell CARADOL offers excellent hydrolytic stability and impact resistance, making them ideal for flexible adhesive applications in packaging, construction, and footwear.

Sealants
Polyurethane-based sealants rely on polyether polyols to provide flexibility, hydrolytic stability and impact resistance. Manufactured for use in construction, automotive and general purposes, sealants can be formulated with Shell CARADOL for performance properties including adhesion, curing, environment, flexibility, strength and in compliance with regulatory standards.

Elastomers
Tensile strength, hardness, elongation and abrasion resistance are among the performance properties along with moisture, UV and chemical resistance that formulators rely on. Shell CARADOL provides low temperature performance, moisture resistance and flexibility making it ideal for applications footwear soles, sports equipment, automotive components and industrial rollers and wheels. Elastomers are also a key component to provide toughness and flexibility in protective coating and construction sealant applications.

Selecting the right polyol building blocks for the desired product properties is the foundation of two-component systems.
Shell CARADOL polyols provide flexibility, durability and chemical resistance for formulations that rely on isocyanates, catalysts, additives (UV resistance) and/or pigments to create the final product. Performance tuning allows manufacturers to modify polyol function to adjust to desired hardness for flexibility, adhesion, durability and type of curing for end application.

The path to sustainable solutions
The mass balance accounting approach is a key component of Shell Chemicals’ sustainability portfolio including bio-based, lower carbon, and bio-circular solutions. It is not just about the final product; it is about transforming the way we create and manufacture to help you deliver on your sustainability goals.
Mass Balance allows personal care product manufacturers to partially replace conventional materials and products with more sustainable alternatives without establishing new manufacturing processes. The process is certified by an independent third-party which helps provide assurance, transparency, and credibility for sustainability claims. It also helps reduce resource consumption and minimize environmental impact while it helps assure the product quality and consistency.
Shell Chemicals has several third-party certification systems in place where the bio-based content is verified by an independent organization, and more are being added to provide options for our customers.
Companies can advance their sustainability goals when they incorporate bio-based Shell NEODOL, Shell NEODENE, and/or Shell IPA C+ in their formulations.
Understanding mass balance
Shell Chemicals’ bio-based content is verified by an independent, third-party certification organization such as (but not limited to) ISCC PLUS, REDcert and SCS global services. Certified by independent third parties.
